July saw a great turnout for a wonderful show,
"Israeli Dance in all its Multi-Ethnic Glory". This
was a one-man dance performance by Danny Pollock, an Israeli
dance teacher known throughout the Eastern seaboard for his
excellent teaching skill and his stylish performances. Incorporating
Russian, Arab, Chassidic and Yemenite music and garb, Danny
illustrated how modern Israeli folkdance has evolved and incorporated
the various backgrounds of all the Jews who have made Israel
their home.
Due to Rosh Hashanah and all the other holidays, there will
be no SAGE meeting in September.
Our next two meetings will be:
Thursday, October 14th at 10:30 AM in the kiddush room
Thursday, November 11th at 10:30 AM in the kiddush room
On October 14th, there will be a lecture by Gloria Golden entitled
"Judaism in Memory and Spirit: 500 Years After the Expulsion.
The lecture is a slide presentation containing oral histories
of descendants of Jews from the Spanish Inquisition, including
the remnants of ritual they retain, and some complete communities,
even in the United States of these "crypto-Jews".
Shana Tovah U'Metuka to you all. Best wishes for a sweet and
healthy new year!
